Sometimes things don't go according to plan. Case in point is how this entire shoot came to exist!

This past weekend I had a standing date with my friend/photographer Emily to shoot a handful of looks for the blog. Something you all may or may not know is that I usually shoot 4-6 looks at a time, and then use the photos for posts at a later date. Being that I am a blogger with a full time job (not related in any way to fashion/blogging), this is just a necessary reality. I would absolutely love to share with everyone my daily looks, but the truth is that I just do not have the time to keep up with this. Besides, I have always been a proponent for quality over quantity!

Anyway, this past weekend I picked up Emily and we spent some time finalizing my looks to shoot. Then we got everything packed, decided on our destination, and headed out the door. As soon as we got in the car...it starts pouring rain! Needless to say, our photoshoot day was shot...

Now, I am sure that everyone has found themselves in similar situations, where things did not work out exactly as they would have liked. I feel like this can be a very common thing that happens with our closets as well. Have you ever gone to get ready and you just cannot find the piece you are looking for, or it is dirty, maybe still at the dry cleaners? How about unexpected changes in weather? These things happen all of the time, especially this tricky time of year when the weather can't seem to make up its mind!

It is because of situations like these that it is great when you have built a wardrobe filled with basics that you can mix and match in order to achieve different looks! For instance, this complete look that I am wearing was not what I started out my day in. When I woke up this past Sunday to head to an early breakfast, it was sunny and relatively warm. However, by the time I picked Emily up later that day it had gotten noticeably colder. So, when I got home I layered the gray turtleneck under the maxi and moto jacket that I had already been wearing. Thank god for 90's trends coming back into style and for my closet coming to my rescue when the weather changed my plans!

The best part about all of the pieces that I am wearing in this look, is that I can incorporate them into so many different outfits. As a little style tip for you, what I am wearing in this post are things that I think everyone should have in their wardrobe: a great leather (or in my case suede) jacket, a maxi dress that is perfect for layering and wearing in different seasons, a fitted turtleneck, and a trusty pair of booties!

Now, you may still be wondering what all of this has to do with how this shoot came to happen. Well after spending the afternoon shopping, and not getting anything, it finally stopped raining when Emily and I were headed home. So, we parked the car in Fort Point and set out to take a few shots. At first, I was worried because none of what I am wearing is new. I was worried that it would be difficult to share this look for you to shop, or that it might not seem relevant. But, then I realized that I needed to remember what I am continually telling all of you. As I mentioned earlier in this post, if you have set up a good base to work off of in your wardrobe, then it is very easy to stay stylish, and even relevant with your looks! So, even though my day did not go according to plan, I was still able to pull something together to share with all of you as a result of it.

Unfortunately, the suede moto jacket I am wearing is no longer available in green. However, I did find an extremely similar jacket that comes in the same green color below!!
